Denise Benson has a stellar series of articles on The Grid about old-school Toronto clubs. Oh man these take me back. Would love one on the history of the Comfort Zone (there is an article on it’s current state, but only alludes to it’s checkered past). Despite having lived around the corner for 2 years and living in the Annex for most of 1999-2007, and been pretty ok with sketchy party situations, I never actually went to the Comfort Zone. Besides the fact that I HATE progressive house, my ex used to work there and that was enough for me. I’m sure there’s a website around dedicated to the crazy shit that went down at the CZ. I’ve known people to arrive Friday night and leave Monday morning. Yeah, I’ll keep that box empty on my Toronto raver bingo card thanks. I’d def nominate Spadina and College for sketchiest corner in Toronto. It may not look like it at first glance, but live there and you know what I’m talking about.
